About Us
Who We Are
Unity & Affirmation has one purpose and that is to help provide strong emotional and financial support for sufferers from chronic pain and disability. All are welcome with no fees or membership dues, and no need to disclose personal or financial information.
We embrace the Ubuntu philosophy that unity and affirmation is more effective than criticism and coercion. Ubuntu can be translated as, “humanity,” in Zulu. Ubuntu claims a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.
What We Do
The major problems I want to address on the website are isolation, criticism/self esteem, and addiction. When in pain, we withdraw, we isolate, we become self absorbed.
Our family and friends, and even doctors become critical and judgmental and we hear accusations like, “lazy,” and “drug seeking.” For relief we turn to drugs, online gaming and porn among other addictions.
I want the website to be a forum where folks can freely express their frustrations, exchange strategies, and offer comfort and reassurance to our peers. There are no experts here, except that we are experts in how we feel and what works for us.
I want the website to feel inviting and warm like the smiling sun logo. I want to affirm what we can do and not what we can’t do.
